Hukam #16

Seeing Hukams such as these, told by our Guru in the 17 th  century, it’s clear to see how the perception that Sikhi is not relevant in today’s day and age is completely misplaced. Its message was ahead of its time then & its message is still ahead of its time now. My True Guru, forever and ever, does not come and go. He is the Imperishable Creator Lord; He is permeating and pervading among all. ||13|| (Guru Raam Daas Ji, Ang 759) Before the suffragettes, feminists or female political representatives began on their mission to try and abolish the discrimination and dehumanisation that plagued their gender, our all-knowing Guru was already fighting this injustice for centuries beforehand. At a time when women would be burnt alongside their husband’s deathbeds...

Hukam #15

This Hukam is very much related to the previous one as the idea of considering women, other than our spouses, as our mothers, sisters, or daughters, is further emphasised. The Gurus philosophy allows the thinking of the Sikh to transcend into higher wavelengths. By considering other women as our close relatives, it ensures that our actions toward them are just and righteous. Not only does it cast away the lustful eye, but it enables the protection of the community as a whole rather than just individual families.  It was the time of 1739 when Nadir Shah looted Hindustan and carried 2200 Hindu women back to Persia in carts. These women were to be exchanged in slave markets, and despair seemed to be their written destiny. It was at this time of despair that Singh's came to their assistance. Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, who was the commander of the Sikh army at that time, attacked Nadir Shah’s camp at midnight. Roaring glorious Jaikaare of the Almighty, the Singh...

The Forgotten 96Krori

To understand the need for this article, we must first appreciate a few key points. This article has not been written to undermine/disrespect any Singh. It is not made for any bandwagons or sh*t stirring; this article has been made for one straightforward reason: to express the truth. What we must understand is that uncertainty doesn’t help any situation and only hinders our progress as a collective. The history books will testify to confusion, and we owe it to the future generation to be clear on any issue. Just as when 22 Saadhs (holy men)  proclaimed to be the Guru in the times of the 9 th  Nanak, the truth had to be told. The Great Makhan Shah Lubana found his Guru & declared the truth to the world regardless of anybody else's status; this included Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s grandson, Dheer Mal. Therefore, this article puts forward the truth & hopes to shed light upon the real leader of the Guru Khalsa Panth.

Hukam #14

Hukam #14 highlights a problem which is becoming more and more relevant as the years are going by. The draw of lustful thoughts, actions & speech is familiar to all of us living within the 21 st century. So often, the mind makes the excuse to allow this powerful vice to take control but the Guru, the True Guru, offers us a way out of this slippery slope.  ॥ T he essence of all religion is the Lord's Name alone, ॥ It abides in the minds of the devotees of God. ॥ Millions of sins are erased, in the Company of the Holy. (Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Ang 276) Lust is something that is plaguing the youth in today’s day and age regardless of religion, caste, creed or gender. The world we live in today glorifies sexuality and this seems to desensitise us against performing such acts by making it appear to be okay to do so. I’d argue every single religion on this planet has t...
